How to Relax and Calm Your Anxiety When You Feel Overwhelmed

The stresses of day-to-day life can feel overwhelming at times. Whether it’s worrying about work, looking after your kids or just getting things done, everybody has moments – and days – when it just feels like things aren’t going your way. And when you feel like this, it can be really difficult to snap out of it and carry on.

In fact, you may feel that the only way to feel better is to go to sleep and start afresh the next day – accept that you’re having a bad day and power through. Other people find it a bit more difficult to keep cracking on and may find themselves unproductive and wallowing in self-pity.

Regardless of how you deal with these feelings, the good news there are ways that you can make yourself feel better in the moment. You don’t have to waste an entire day feel out of sorts or wait until tomorrow to be productive.

Move Your Body

You don’t have be to a sports fanatic to get this right. The easiest way in the world to relax and feel a little bit better is to move your body. Go for a walk, a run, do some yoga or hit the gym – whatever it is that you enjoy.

Phone a Friend

Reach out to someone you trust and makes you feel comfortable. Tell them how you feel – it’ll help you get it off your chest and make you feel less alone.

Do Something You Enjoy and Makes You Feel Comfortable

This is different for everybody and may include a range of different things. For some people, that may be watching an episode of their favourite series – “Friends” is a firm favourite – to calm down and feel comfortable.
